Trek calls the Domane+ SL Gen 5 its lightest e-bike ever. It’s a carbon endurance road bike with TQ’s smallest motor, the 40 Nm HPR40. Trek sells it in three builds. The SL 6 AXS is $6,499.99, the SL 7 AXS is $9,499.99 and the SL 9 AXS is $11,999.99. All three use the same frame, motor and battery. The parts, wheels and weight change as the price goes up. I haven’t ridden any of them. Below I compare them with the Trek FX+ 7S and the Specialized Turbo Vado SL 4.0 EQ, two light flat bar bikes with pages on this site, and with the Velotric T1 ST, which I filmed. Everything here comes from Trek’s product pages, checked on Oct 28, 2026 and linked at the bottom.
A smaller motor on purpose
The TQ-HPR40 is rated at 40 Nm and 200W peak. That’s less than the 60 Nm HPR60 in Trek’s aluminum Domane+ ALR. Trek says the HPR40 is lighter, smaller and quieter, and that it’s meant to keep the bike feeling like a regular road bike. It’s a Class 3 bike, so pedal assist runs to 28 mph. Trek doesn’t list a throttle. Some paths are closed to Class 3 bikes, and our e-bike laws hub and Class 2 vs Class 3 guide explain the rules.
The battery is a TQ 360Wh pack, and the bikes ship with a TQ 4A charger. Trek claims up to 70 miles. On the SL 7 and SL 9 pages, Trek says you can order a 580Wh battery through its Project One custom program for up to 115 miles. A TQ color display connects over Bluetooth and ANT+.
Comfort and everyday details
The frame is 500 Series OCLV Carbon with Trek’s Endurance Road fit. Trek adds a few touches for long rides:
- Riser bar. It has 20mm of rise to sit you up a bit more.
- Seatpost. A Bontrager RSL carbon post that Trek says flexes to take the edge off road buzz.
- Tires. 700x35mm, with room for up to 40mm.
- Lights. A Supernova Starstream Mini headlight and a Trek Flare C taillight, both powered by the main battery.
- Mounts. Fender mounts on the frame and fork, plus frame bag mounts and a UDH derailleur hanger.
The weight limit is 275 lb total, including the bike. Sizes run XS to XL. Trek doesn’t list pedals in the parts.
SL 6, SL 7 or SL 9
- SL 6 AXS, $6,499.99. SRAM Rival AXS 1x13 wireless shifting with a 10 to 46 cassette. Bontrager Paradigm Comp 25 alloy wheels, Kwaremont Pro tires and an alloy riser bar. 26.7 lb in size ML.
- SL 7 AXS, $9,499.99. SRAM Force AXS 1x13. Bontrager Aeolus Pro 37 carbon wheels with a DT Swiss 240 rear hub, Kwaremont RSL tires, a carbon riser bar and a carbon-railed saddle. 25.29 lb in size ML.
- SL 9 AXS, $11,999.99. SRAM RED AXS 1x13 and Aeolus RSL 37 carbon wheels, with the same RSL tires and carbon bar. 24.26 lb in size ML.
All three have a 44T chainring and 160mm rotors. Each SL 6 color and size is listed separately for stock. On Nov 3, 2026, two of the 12 were in stock online: XS in Matte Deep Smoke and XL in Matte Nightshade. The SL 7 and SL 9 were build to order in every size and color.
How it compares
Against the Trek FX+ 7S: it’s a flat bar bike with a TQ-HPR50 motor rated at 50 Nm, the same 360Wh battery size and 28 mph assist. It weighs about 41 lb and comes with a rack and fender. It was $3,199.93 on closeout on Oct 28, 2026. The Domane+ SL is about 14 to 17 lb lighter as listed and uses drop bars, but it costs at least twice as much.
Against the Specialized Turbo Vado SL 4.0 EQ: it’s another light flat bar bike, with a 35 Nm motor, a 320Wh battery and assist to 28 mph. Specialized lists it at 36.6 lb and up to 80 miles, and it was $3,999.99 on Oct 26, 2026. The two bikes have similar motor and battery sizes. The Domane+ SL is built as a drop bar road bike and weighs about 10 lb less.
Against the Velotric T1 ST, which I filmed: it weighs 36 lb and has a 350W rear hub, a 353Wh battery and Class 1 assist to 20 mph. It’s the lightest e-bike I’ve filmed, and every Domane+ SL build is about 9 to 12 lb lighter as Trek lists them.
Within Trek’s own lineup, the aluminum Domane+ ALR has the stronger 60 Nm HPR60 motor and costs about $5,000. It weighs about 31.5 lb.

Does it come with lights?
Yes. Trek’s parts list includes a Supernova Starstream Mini headlight and a Trek Flare C taillight.
Can I buy an SL 7 or SL 9 off the shelf?

Pros and cons (from the specs and sources)
Pros: 24.26 to 26.7 lb as listed; up to 70 mi claimed; 28 mph assist; lights powered by the main battery; riser bar and flexing seatpost; clears 40mm tires; fender and frame bag mounts; wireless 13 speed shifting on every build.
Cons: 40 Nm motor, less torque than the Domane+ ALR’s 60 Nm; $6,499.99 to $11,999.99; SL 6 mostly out of stock and SL 7 and SL 9 build to order on Nov 3, 2026; 275 lb total limit; pedals not listed; Class 3 limits some paths.
Who it’s for
On paper, the Domane+ SL suits road riders who want an e-bike that weighs close to a regular road bike, with a light assist for hills and long days rather than a strong push. If you want more torque for less money, the Domane+ ALR has the 60 Nm motor at about $5,000. If you want flat bars and a rack, the FX+ 7S is closer to what you need.
