Short verdict: The Char-Broil Edge is a full-size outdoor grill that plugs into the wall. It has no burners and no charcoal. You turn a dial to set the temperature, wait, and cook. I set mine to about 500 to 600°F, it got there in about 15 minutes, and four steaks at about 7 minutes a side came out medium rare, pink and juicy, with room left over for vegetables. The grate keeps small food from falling through, and an auto clean mode burns off the mess and then shuts itself off. As of October 26, 2026, Char-Broil lists the Edge (22652143) at $599.00 and the Edge Black (24652144) at $499.99. If you want gas or charcoal flavor, or you don’t have an outdoor outlet, it isn’t for you.

How I tested it

My video is from October 2023 and runs about four minutes. I had the version that comes with a grill cover. Setup took some assembly with basic tools. I used it for a first cook of four steaks and talked through the controls and the clean cycle. The video doesn’t say whether I bought the grill or Char-Broil sent it; the description has an Amazon affiliate link.

That’s one cook. I didn’t measure the grate temperature with a thermometer, test it in cold weather, cook low-and-slow, or use it over a season. Everything I report below comes from that first session. The specs come from Char-Broil’s product pages, checked October 26, 2026.

CPSC recallsNone found for the Edge. Char-Broil’s September 17, 2026 recall covers Bistro Pro electric grills only

I described it in the video as about 52 inches wide. Char-Broil lists the assembled width as 48 inches, so use Char-Broil’s number when you’re measuring a patio.

What it cost when I filmed

In 2023 the Edge started at $499, and the bundle with the cover was $533, so the cover was about $30 extra. As of October 26, 2026, Char-Broil sells two listings at different prices: the standard Edge at $599.00 and the Edge Black at $499.99. I tested the standard silver-front version. I didn’t compare the two side by side, so I can’t tell you what the extra $100 buys beyond the finish.

Setup and heat-up

Assembly took basic tools and some patience, nothing unusual for a full-size grill. Once it’s together, there’s no tank to hook up and no charcoal to light. You plug it in and turn the dial.

I set it to around 500 to 600°F. It took about 15 minutes to get there. That matches Char-Broil’s claim of 500°F in under 15 minutes. It’s slower than flipping on a gas grill and faster than waiting for a chimney of charcoal to ash over.

The dial is the whole interface. You pick a temperature, the grill holds it, and you don’t have to manage burners or move coals around.

Four steaks at about 7 minutes a side

For the first cook I put four steaks on and still had plenty of grate left for vegetables. Char-Broil lists 270 square inches of primary cooking area, and in practice that was enough for a family dinner in one batch.

I cooked them about 7 minutes per side. They came out medium rare, pink and juicy in the middle. Your times will depend on thickness and how cold the meat is when it goes on, so use a thermometer the first few times.

Because there are no open flames, there were no flare-ups to fight. That also means you don’t get the smoke and char that come with charcoal. If that flavor is the reason you grill, an electric grill won’t replace it.

Nothing falls through

The grate is built so food doesn’t drop into a flame. There’s no flame under it to drop into. That makes it easier to cook things that usually fall apart or slip through on a standard grate, like flaky fish and cut vegetables. I didn’t need a grill basket for the vegetables.

Auto clean

The Edge has an auto clean mode. It heats up to burn off food residue and then turns itself off when it’s done. That’s the part I’d use most. You still need to brush the grate and deal with grease, but you don’t have to stand there waiting to turn it off.

Pros and cons

Pros

Cons

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

Buy it if you live somewhere that limits gas or charcoal, you hate swapping propane tanks, or you want a full-size grill you can set and leave. It’s also a good fit if you cook a lot of fish and vegetables.

Skip it if charcoal flavor matters to you, you don’t have a nearby outdoor outlet, or you need something small. In that last case, look at a compact electric like the Weber Lumin.

FAQ

How long does the Char-Broil Edge take to heat up? In my test it took about 15 minutes to reach about 500 to 600°F. Char-Broil says under 15 minutes to 500°F.

How long did the steaks take? About 7 minutes per side for medium rare. Thickness changes that, so check with a thermometer.

Does food fall through the grate? Not in my cook. Fish and vegetables stayed on top.

How does auto clean work? It heats up to burn off food residue and then turns itself off.

How much does it cost? As of October 26, 2026, Char-Broil lists the Edge at $599.00 and the Edge Black at $499.99. In 2023 it started at $499, and about $533 with the cover.

Has the Edge been recalled? I found no CPSC recall for the Edge as of October 26, 2026. Char-Broil’s September 17, 2026 recall (CPSC 26-773) covers Bistro Pro electric grills with date codes 2510 to 2512, not the Edge.

Why this review stops here

My video is four minutes long and covers one cook. I’m not going to fill this page with long-term claims, cold-weather results or low-temperature cooking I haven’t done. If I cook on the Edge more, this page will be updated.
